Cheer Wins State Championship

The journey began in October, with learning their competition routines, set to custom music for NHS. Then came many, many, weeks of stunt repetitions and cleaning. As they approached their February deadline, they put in extra hours in the gym, perfecting their routines and adding finishing touches.

They attended, and won, a local competition in January, before one last hurdle: the community showcase. On a Wednesday evening, the Niceville Gym was packed with friends and family eager to see what their girls had been working so hard on. Catching up with Senior Kaymin Magier, she told me, “it’s been a lot of time and effort, early mornings, and late nights.”  As the cheerleaders soared through the air and whipped their bodies into tumbling passes, the crowd stood in awe of the pure athleticism of the underappreciated sport.

It’s a common myth that “every cheer team wins state”, driven by a misunderstanding of the divisional system, and furthered by two local teams, Niceville and Choctaw, taking home state titles last year (Choctaw has boys on their team, and therefore competes in a different division than Niceville). Niceville certainly faced many challengers aiming for their reigning title, with 15 teams in their division, 4 advancing to finals.

But while they’re feeling great coming off a state title, they still have UCA Nationals looming ahead. Senior Ava Floro told me that they are, “working to focus on the small things. The routine this weekend was good but not our best. Correcting those small errors is the goal for the next couple of days.”

Congrats to Niceville Cheer on their impressive accomplishments and good luck at Nationals.

Eagle Football Playoff Run

Following their win against Navarre, the Eagles ventured out to the Jacksonville area to play Nease High School. Following a 56-21 win, the Eagles brought it back to The Nest for a home game against Bartram Trail. While the Eagles didn't win, they made a valiant effort in this year's playoff run.

The maroon vs maroon game ended in a big win for the eagles, with an almost 30 point lead. Final score, 63-34.

Niceville had a big homecoming win over Leon, 62-7.  The Ville also crowned their homecoming king and queen, Gavin Beauchamp and Haley Stillings.

Highlights From Niceville v.s. Crestview

NHS settled the score in the September 29th game with a 42-21 win over the bulldogs. 42 seems to be the Eagles' new lucky number, as they won by that same point total last week against Choctaw. Both Fayard and Lafortune had big nights, with three scores for Fayard and one for Lafortune. Another big moment came from Devontae Robins, rushing for 170 yds and a touchdown.  Fans were also delighted by a surprise appearance from Azareye'h Thomas, a recent graduate now playing at FSU.

Eagles took home a win 42-21 against one of our rival high schools, Choctaw.

Eagles Take Home a Win Out of Town

Eagles took home a win 19-14 against Chiles on their home turf in Tallahassee. Fans from last year may remember our defeat of Chiles this time last year during our homecoming game.
